Gangotri is a small town that is located in the Uttarkashi District in the state of Uttarakhand. It is a pilgrim town of the Hindus and frequented by a large number of visitors throughout the year. It is located on the banks of the Bhagirathi River. Kedarnath, another famous Hindu pilgrim town, is also located in Uttarakhand but in the Rudraprayag District. Both these pilgrim towns are suitable for trekking as they are surrounded by mountains and hill and have great trails ideal for trekking.
Adventure Of A Lifetime : The trek here is along the route that is frequented by the Pilgrims, the Gangotri to Kedarnath route. To traverse the trek, you will have to come down to Gangotri from Mala by means of some transport. The trek starts from Mala after you have crossed the Bhagirathi River. Up to Sauri-ki-gad, the trek is leveled, but from this point onwards, the climb to Belak is measured. Then from Belak you travel to Buddha Kedar. The trek is steep and downhill, passing through dense forests that are replete with Birk trees and varied wildlife. Then after you have reached Buddha Kedar, you move further along to Panwali. The trek is astonishingly beautiful and it is an uphill ascent through small picturesque villages and vast expanse of terraced fields. From here, you can witness the beauty of the Garhwal Himalayas that is extremely refreshing. There are several alpine meadows on this trek that are beautiful- especially the Kuch-Kalyani and Panwali Bugyals that are worth visiting. The trek is located at a maximum altitude of 4450 metres.
