The spectacular Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world with five peaks, three of which are located on the border of Sikkim and Nepal. Kanchenjunga is located at an altitude of 8,586 metres above sea level. Kanchenjunga literally means ‘The Five Treasures of Snows’. The treasures signify the five sources of God that are silver, gold, grain, gem and the holy books. Kanchenjunga is endowed with lush Rhododendron foliage, Pine tree forests and a thriving flora of Spruces and Magnolias.


The Joy Of Mountain Trekking
There are several treks in Kanchenjunga that are ideal for mountain trekking.
  • The trek from North Kanchenjunga to South Base camp starts and ends at the small airfield at Sukhetar, which lies in the isolated north-eastern side of Nepal. The trek takes you through captivating quaint villages and unspoiled forests to the beautiful South Face Base Camp at Ramche. After reaching Ramche, the trek crosses the Mirgin La to the northern side of Kanchenjunga and the Pang Pema base camp. The majestic view of the mountains, quaint villages, gushing mountain rivers and the beautiful sounds of nature combine to make this trek a magnificent and memorable experience.

  • The second popular trek in Kanchenjunga starts from Maneshanjang, which is a 26 km drive by road from Darjeeling. This is a trek route that stretches from 6 to 7 days on an average. This trekking route from Darjeeling will take you to Sandakphu and Phalut. From here, you can see the awe-inspiring views of the Kanchenjunga Mountain and Mt. Everest.

  • Another trek is the one that is done in Kalimpong from Relli, Neora and Pankhasari to the topmost point in the area that is Rochella, located at an altitude of 3,400 metres. From Rochella, it is a fixed descent to Tangta along the slopes to Samsing. This trek offers the view of a plethora of Himalayan flora, fauna and wildlife.
